Shungite is a rare stone, sourced exclusively from the Karelia region in northwestern Russia, near Lake Onega.
Its name comes from the village of Shunga , where it was discovered several centuries ago.
The first traces of its use date back to the 17th century, when Tsar Peter the Great highlighted its exceptional properties. He is said to have used water purified with shungite to treat wounded soldiers and even founded the first Russian spa resort in Olonets , exploiting the therapeutic virtues of this stone.
